AAPI Month is Here - 亞太裔傳統月
May 2024
We want to start this year’s AAPI Heritage Month by thanking our generous sponsors and many donors for making our first Great Give such a success! Together, we have raised over $4,000. With your support, we will be able to purchase some much-needed equipment and contribute to our operations cost. Your generosity is helping us take our music to communities around Connecticut. Please feel free to contribute anytime here.
May is a month of activities for NHCCC. This past Sunday, we performed for the residents at Whitney Center. We had a full house and were received very enthusiastically. Best of all, everyone from NHCCC able to meet someone new from the audience afterwards. How wonderful it is to make connection through joyful music! Because it was also the day after the Kentucky Derby, we decided to bring out the Racing Horse(s), which was originally slated for our next show, as a mid-program encore! See our silly Racing Horse(s) rehearsal reel here. Pictures from the performance will be forthcoming. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for photo updates.
Coming right up on Wednesday 5/8 (7 pm), members of NHCCC will be joining the Wesleyan University Chinese Music Ensemble in their Spring Concert, also led by Joy. Admission is free and no registration is required. So just show up!
We are bringing in more percussion for our two outdoor performances. In both performances, our songs will feature flora and animals (grasshoppers, roosters, ducks, horses, goldfish…). See our rehearsal reel of the Bickering Ducklings.
Upcoming events in May:
Sat. 5/11 (12 pm) ArtWalk in Westville: We are on the Edgewood Park Stage. There will be a lot of vendors and food through out the day, so come enjoy yourself!
Fri. 5/17 (7 pm) New Haven Night Market: A big party! We are setting up near the corner of Crown and Orange (New Haven 9th Square). You will surely hear us once you get close.
Finally, we are starting to recruit musicians for the fall, so if you (or someone you know) already play a traditional Chinese instrument, or if you would like to try your hands on a Chinese instrument, please contact us for an audition: admin@newhavenccc.org
